The firm starts with a team of five professionals.
With the promise of applying “a different approach” to offer “an efficient and quality option,” Joaquín Pani Mejía (former legal executive director of Akaan Transamerica) inaugurated - this June 1 - Pani Abogados, S.C. The boutique provides advice on risk and private equity, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and commercial law, real estate, banking and financial law and regulatory compliance.
The firm opened with a team of five professionals led by Pani. The lawyer - graduated from La Salle University - explained that "many funds and regulated entities lack legal advice not only efficient but also with a scheme of competitive and fixed fees."
The firm will offer services to investment fund operators, brokerage firms, fintechs, pharmaceutical companies, information technology companies, real estate developers and food producers, among others.
For Pani, the current Mexican legal market presents several challenges, including the uncertainty felt by various national and foreign investors that have reduced costs and transformed processes, “in many cases diversifying the contracting of services of all kinds by third parties, but always looking for efficiency, quality and flexibility in fee schemes of external advisors ”.
To this is added the change of government "which began to impact the markets" and which has resulted in distrust of investors due to several measures taken by the AMLO cabinet. However, Pani said that several sectors are optimistic about the changes in that market since they have taken into account “the strength of the Mexican economy and Mexico as an ideal destination to receive investments of all kinds, considering that Mexico is only transiting for a period of economic caution that will end in the short term.”
For the specialist, the Mexican legal market will be influenced next year by "the elections in the US this year and the decisions taken by the Mexican government regarding its relationship with the United States."
